Hello! My name is Byungchan Lee, current junior in Tianjin International School. It’s been almost half way through the Philippines Trip, and I am already missing some of the children here. I am having so much fun in this wonderful place. Philippines Trip is not like what I expected. First of all, it is much more hotter and humid than what I expected. Also, the situation here is worse. What I thought was that children who are in the certain facilities are the only one who needed help, but there are more kids around us who seek our services. Everything was meaningful for me, and I want to talk about two of them.
Firstly, on February 3rd, I chose to go to the Detention Center where students who committed crime have to spend certain amount of time. They seemed like around my age. At first, I was nervous, because the atmosphere there was a bit heavy. Two of the boys gave their testimonies in front of us. They talked how did they get into the Detention Center and how did they meet our God. I feel thankful that they had courage to talk about their personal stories, which they might want to hide. Also I thank God that he stopped those young students at an early age so that they realize what they had done and will not make the same mistake ever. After their testimonies, we played basketball, which made us closer.
Another story is about how I learned about love from one street boy named Jason. On the sixth day, our team brought a few street boys into where we stay to swim in the pool. I found two boys who were about 7 years old and took showers and started to play in the pool. A few minutes later, Jason grabbed my hand and asked me to follow him. He was pointing at the front gate. He asked if he could bring few of his friends to the swimming pool. I was both surprised and touched by him. How could a seven years old boy not enjoy the pool but care more about his friends and want to share the joy he has? Unfortunately, I was not able to bring more kids, because we did not have more students to control all the boys. I felt really bad about it. Later other team took charge of swimming, and I saw Jason and his friends were swimming together. This story also tells us how much God loves us.
