Today I woke up slightly sore but overwhelmed that I am indeed in Tacloban. I still cannot believe that I’m here, able to serve and learn from the Filipinos. This morning the Lord gave me a huge smile on my face as I walked out of my room to a clear sky, misty air, and the sweet aroma of the sea. Even though I was tired, I felt the warm smiles and energy from my fellow teammates and leaders as we started the day off. My LAL Group’s first rotation for the morning was construction. I got the opportunity to work and talk with one of the Filipino staff. Our group had a lot of fun sifting the dirt and shoveling concrete. Even though the work was hard, Ms. Hogle spurred our team on with encouraging words and her wonderful snacks. We finished working at about a quarter till noon and washed off in sea. In that moment of being in the sea, we couldn’t thank God more for how He created such a wonderful and marvelous creation. After eating lunch and having some free time three teams including my LAL group went out to go feed children and adults who were in need. When we got there the Lord just overwhelmed me with compassion. He was indeed at work in the community we visited. Once we got there, people came from their houses with pitchers and bowls to receive the food. Even though the families did not have much, they always were joyful for every little thing. Julian and I got the chance to play a game with one of the kids and every five seconds or so he would have such a huge smile that just reminded me of God’s great love. Reflecting back on the day all I can think of is just how great God is. He is in control of everything and He has all of the children in His hands. Even though some people may not have enough food, I believe that God is using that so The Lighthouse or believers around Tacloban can share the love of Christ. It is not a pretty picture to see so many people in need but as a believer we know that God is in control and He has the best plans for everyone.
